Latest news Bethany has had more febrile seizures and has now had an EEG to monitor her brain to see if there is some activity pattern that may offer a clue as to why she is so susceptible. Otherwise, she is doing very well. See our latest pix below. You will see a couple of them that show what Bethany looked like after she found the tub of triplepaste beside her crib in Massanutten.
Date: 11/17. Bethany went to the hospital in an ambulance a couple of weeks ago after she suffered an apparent febrile seizure. Apparently they are relatively common in infants and normally they are benign. That did not make the experience any less horrifying for Keith. Background: Bethany has been sick with a cold for a couple of days. She hadn't had one since Grandma last came to visit so there seems to be a trend there. Anyway, she started feeling warm to Keith in the afternoon and she had been lethargic and listless with no appetite. Keith took her upstairs to take her temperature while he was on the phone with Stacy (who was at work). Her temperature was 100.0. As soon as Keith told Stacy the temperature reading, Bethany's eyes started to drift upward and she started to twitch a little. She was unresponsive and stopped breathing and was lifeless in Keith's arms. Keith told Stacy to call 911. He hung up and tried to dial 911. We ordered new phones that week for just what was about to happen. When Keith went to dial 911, the phone went dead due to a dead battery. By now Bethany's lips were blue and Keith was trying to massage her to get her to breathe. Keith got another phone and got the 911 operator on the line and requested an ambulance. As he was doing this, Bethany started to breath again while making moaning noises but she did not respond to him and did not open her eyes. The ambulance came and took Bethany and Keith to the hospital but Bethany recovered by the time they were in the hospital. Stacy got there just as one of the nurses happened to bump the code blue light by Bethany's bed. Nothing like perfect timing. In the end, all of the nurses all fell in love with Bethany. They ran all the standard tests and determined she was fine. Fortunately, despite his panic, Keith's efforts to try to ensure her breathing passages were clear were just what they tell you to do in such cases so we got lucky. The next day we went to Bethany's physician and discovered that the hospital had failed to inform us that Bethany had RSV as well as a bladder infection! She's all better now but has to go back for some very uncomfortable tests next Friday.
